With more than 3.4 billion active users, Google Chrome is the most popular browser application worldwide. This draws a lot of attention from cyber criminals to prey on naive users. Google is aware of it and regularly rolls out security updates. But, with new emerging technology, bad actors are able to find the loopholes.

In the latest instance, Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has flagged multiple security vulnerabilities in Chrome versions of Mac devices, Windows and Linux PCs.

The security issues can be exploited by remote hackers to execute arbitrary code or cause denial of service (DoS) attacks on targeted computer systems. They will also be able to steal sensitive information from the devices.

Google has acknowledged the security threat and has rolled out firmware updates. The company has refrained from revealing the specific details of the security loopholes so that criminals don't misuse them.

Google will wait for some time so that Chrome users worldwide update their devices.

Also, Google rewarded more than $75,000 to independent cyber security researchers (names withheld) for helping early detection of vulnerabilities in Chrome.

In a related development, Google released new features to Chrome for iPhones. One of the key new features includes generative Artificial Intelligence( gen AI)- based search.

Google offer an AI Overview of a topic. When a user types a query or wants information on a topic. It offers detailed information in the paragraphs or in simple pointers along with URLs to primary sources.
