Samsung on Wednesday (October 29) announced a collaboration with popular car maker Mahindra to integrate Samsung Wallet for a digital key to unlock the new electric vehicles.
Samsung Digital Key feature works on Mahindra Electric Origin SUVs, including BE 6 and XEV 9e. With this, users can lock, unlock and even start the car by just placing the Samsung phone on the built-in wireless charging pad near the steering wheel.

Digital Key works with the Near Field Communication (NFC) modem on the Samsung phones. The car owner has to set up the Samsung Wallet's integration with Mahindra EVs only once. And, the owner has to take it near the door handle, and the car automatically detects the Samsung phone to unlock and lock the door.
What if the smartphone's battery dies?
Fret not, Digital Key works even when the Samsung phone is turned off. It should be noted that all modern smartphones, when their battery runs out, will always have enough reserve battery life to power NFC features.
Samsung Digital Key will be able to unlock Mahindra Electric Origin cars BE 6, XEV X9 series even when the smartphone is off.

Further, for such a scenario, car owners with a Samsung phone can also share their Digital Car Key with friends and family for a limited time period.
This will come in handy when their smartphone gets stolen or misplaced. Also, users can make use of the Samsung Find service to lock or erase the smartphone before it can be misused

For now, Samsung Digital Key feature for Mahindra's Electric Origon-based eSUVs will be supported on premium Samsung phones-- Galaxy S20, S20+, S20 Ultra, S20 FE, Galaxy S21, S21+, S21 Ultra, S21 FE, Galaxy S22, S22+, S22 Ultra, S22 FE, Galaxy S23, S23+, S23 Ultra, S23 FE, Galaxy S24, S24+, S24 Ultra, S24 FE, Galaxy S25, S25+, S25 Ultra, and the S25 FE.
Also, Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip2, Z Fold2, Galaxy Z Flip3, Z Fold3, Galaxy Z Flip4, Z Fold4, Galaxy Z Flip5, Z Fold5, Galaxy Z Flip6, Z Fold6, Galaxy Z Flip6, and the Z Fold6 will support Samsung Digital Key for Mahindra's eSUVs.
Samsung says it has plans to expand the availability of Digital Key for Mahindra.
