Popular caller identifier Truecaller has announced a new feature that lets phone users flag fraudsters.
While Truecaller has robust number screening technology, the threat actors get new phone numbers to hoodwink potential victims. To keep up with the pace in an ever-evolving scenario, Truecaller has launched a 'Scamfeed' feature that runs on crowdsourced information to update their database.
"Scamfeed is a dynamic user-generated content stream where users can report, discuss, and stay informed about the latest scams as they unfold. More than just a feed, it’s a digital support network for anyone who has encountered fraud or narrowly avoided becoming a victim," says the company.
Whenever a user gets a call from unknown people and while talking, if they sense this is a potential scam, he/she can hang up the call. Then, users can quickly report it to the Truecaller app.

Also, he/she can check on Truecaller if others have reported similar suspicious messages or calls, and learn the red flags associated with new fraud types. Also, learn some new tricks in terms of identifying and avoiding such malicious phone calls.
The current Truecaller app already has a feature to block and also describe the incident in the comment section. But, there is less space to describe the scam.
With the Scamfeed, there is an option to elaborate on the potential scam with clear details.
Also, it can offer rich information on types of phishing types, impersonation, dating app scams, and financial fraud.
And, if needed, users can even post anonymously to engage through threaded comments, and share screenshots on Truecaller and also on external platforms such as WhatsApp as well.
