Truecaller finally brings live caller id feature to iPhone

Popular telecommunication app Truecallerer has finally launched the long-awaited real-time caller ID feature in its iOS app.

Previously, iPhone owners had to copy-paste the unknown number on the Truecaller app to find the real identity of the caller and also know if it was a genuine person or a fraud.

The reason Apple restricted Truecaller was due to the former's strict user privacy protocol which prevented the app from accessing the call list and contact details from the iPhone's native dialer app.

Recently, Apple introduced a user privacy-centric Live Caller ID Lookup framework, developed especially for apps like Truecaller to provide live caller ID. This API uses state-of-the-art homomorphic encryption and Truecaller is the first in the world to deploy this at scale for Caller ID.

Now, whenever an unknown person calls a person with an iPhone, the caller ID will beam the former's name. This will help the phone owner to either answer it or reject the call.

Here's how to turn on Truecaller's live caller ID feature on iPhone:

Prerequisite: Make sure your iPhone is running iOS 18.2 or later. And, the Truecaller app version 14.0 or later.

Step 1: Open iPhone Settings > Apps > Phone > Call Blocking & Identification.

Step 2: Here, enable all Truecaller switches and open the Truecaller app again.

Once done, the Truecaller app will display the caller's name in real-time. Also, Truecaller will be able to automatically block spam calls. Other improvements include the ability to search for previously identified calls, going as far back as 2,000 previous numbers in the Recents list in the Phone app.

However, these features are exclusive to Truecaller Premium users. Whereas the free users on iOS will have to continue with ad-supported manual number searches of individuals and caller IDs of Verified Businesses.
