Abdol Wadud, who was abducted by a group of armed men in Jalalabad after being shot and injured on Saturday, escaped last night, Peshawar-based Afghan Islamic Press news agency reported today.

Wadud's father Abdorrauf Khan told the Afghan Islamic Press that his son managed to escape from the house where he had been kept by his abductors in Spin Jumat village in Chaparhar district.

"He informed police with the help of locals and he returned today," Khan said.
He said that his son was injured when the kidnappers fired at him and his health was better now.

Asked whether his son was abducted for ransom or political reasons, Khan replied: "It is not clear yet why he was kidnapped and it will be established later."
