The Nobel Peace Laureate told BBC: "Well I can't even to begin to describe my reaction. It's a joy, exhilaration, total emancipation for 85 million people. For the first time Egypt has been liberated and has put its feet on the right track towards a country of democracy and social justice."

El Baradei returned to Egypt in the last week of January following protests that began Jan 25. Demonstrations swept across the country and Mubarak's exit came on the 18th day of the protests Friday.

Senior Google executive Wael Ghonim, who went on to become the face of the Egyptian unrest after he was detained Jan 28 and released 10 days later, tweeted: "I want to thank Muhamed @ElBaradei as his arrival to Egypt was what got me interested in changing #Egypt #Jan25".
