Will protest every day outside Parliament during monsoon session: Samyukt Kisan Morcha

A group of around 200 farmers will protest against the Centre's three farm laws in front of Parliament every day during the monsoon session, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) announced on Sunday.

The umbrella body of over 40 farmer unions said at a press conference that two days before the session begins, a "chetavani patra" (warning letter) will be given to all the opposition MPs to protest the laws inside the House.

Trinamool Congress leaders slam PM Modi over soaring fuel prices

The Trinamool Congress on Sunday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for soaring fuel prices, wondering whether he has "gone into hiding".

The ruling party in West Bengal also accused the BJP of working hard to "add to the people's woes" as the fuel prices hit a "historic high".

However, the BJP questioned why the state government is not reducing its duties on petroleum products to bring down the prices.

Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Sunday hit out at the Congress for accusing her party of having a tacit understanding with the BJP, saying the 'C' in its name stands for "cunning".

Reacting to her remarks, UP Congress spokesperson Ashok Singh said every voter in Uttar Pradesh is saying that the BSP is the spokesperson of the BJP and Mayawati should "accept this truth".

Mehbooba seeks LG’s intervention against eviction of party leaders from govt quarters

Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday sought the intervention of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha against the alleged forcible eviction of her party leaders, including former legislators, from their government quarters.

Mehbooba alleged that the administration is selectively targeting PDP leaders and made them vacate their official residences in Srinagar without providing any alternate accommodation.

The former chief minister warned that she would hold the Lt Governor administration responsible if “anything untoward happens” with them

Two TMC activists attacked in Bengal, six arrested

Miscreants attacked two TMC activists and opened fire in the air outside one of the ruling party's offices in the city's northern outskirts, triggering panic in the area, a police officer said on Sunday.

Six persons have been arrested so far in connection with the incident, he said.

Chinese astronauts make first spacewalk outside new station

Two astronauts on Sunday made the first spacewalk outside China's new orbital station to set up cameras and other equipment using a 15-metre-long (50-foot-long) robotic arm.

Liu Boming and Tang Hongbo were shown by state TV climbing out of the airlock as Earth rolled past below them. The third crew member, commander Nie Haisheng, stayed inside.

Liu and Tang spent nearly seven hours outside the station, the Chinese space agency said.

50% applications for cyclone Yaas relief in Bengal rejected as 'bogus': Official

The West Bengal government has rejected as "bogus" almost 50 per cent of the applications that were filed seeking compensation for the damage caused by cyclone Yaas, following spot verification by district authorities, a senior official said on Sunday.

The government had last month received at least 3,81,774 applications at the camps set up under its Duare Tran (relief at doorstep) programme, he said.

More than 1,000 soldiers, firefighters and police on Sunday waded through a giant mudslide that ripped through a resort town southwest of Tokyo, killing at least two people and leaving about 20 missing as it swept away houses and cars.

Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga told reporters 19 people had been rescued, and 130 homes and other buildings were damaged in Atami.

UK announces harsher sentences for Channel migrants

Britain has announced it will seek harsher sentences for migrants caught entering the country without permission amid a record-breaking surge in arrivals over the English Channel.

The stricter prison sentences for both migrants and people smugglers come as part of Home Secretary Priti Patel's plans to overhaul asylum rules in a bid to prevent what her department has characterised as "asylum shopping".

The legislation announced Saturday makes it a criminal offence to arrive in the UK without permission, with a maximum sentence for those entering the country unlawfully increasing from six months to four years.
