"Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope," - this famous quote by American memoirist and poet Maya Angelou aptly describes the timeless nature of love. In a huge testament to the aforementioned quote, Bernie Littman and Marjorie Fiterman, aged 100 and 102 respectively, tied the knot on May 19 this year, and etched their names on the Guiness Book of World Records as the world's oldest newlyweds, with a combined age of 202. Indeed, love knows no boundaries!
Littman and Fiterman met each other nine years ago at a costume party in a living community meant for senior citizens in Philadelphia, US, marking the beginning of their unique love story. They clicked right away, and as time went on, their relationship became stronger until they were married on May 19 in the same location where their journey started.
Guinness World Records officially recognised them as the world's oldest newlyweds two days back and shared a video from their wedding ceremony on their Instagram account with the caption: "Oldest couple to marry.. Bernard Littman and Marjorie Fiterman with an aggregate age of 202 years 271 days."
Rabbi Adam Wohlberg, who officiated the wedding of Littman and Fiterman, shared his thoughts about conducting such a special and rare event to Fox News. "Most of the couples I marry these days met on some kind of dating app.. I much prefer the old ways. You live in the same building, you bump into each other, and you fall in love," he said.
Both Littman and Fiterman had been married earlier for more than 60 years. However, both of their respective former spouses passed away due to age-related issues years back.
"We were all thrilled that he found someone to do activities and spend time with.. the two of them were so lucky to have found each other and be a support to each other, especially during the pandemic," Littman's granddaughter Sarah Sicherman told Fox News.
