Vatican City: Pope Leo called on Friday ​for world governments ‌to "respect the ⁠will" ‌of the Venezuelan people after US forces seized President Nicolas Maduro and ​took him to the US last weekend.

"I ‌renew ‌my appeal to respect ⁠the will of the Venezuelan people, and to ⁠safeguard ⁠the human and ‌civil rights ‌of all, ensuring a future of stability ‍and concord," Leo, the first US pope, said in an address to diplomats accredited to ​the Vatican.
