Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev said: "This mainly concerns officers appointed to posts where there is a risk of corruption. They will face lie detector tests. This is normal practice."

President Dmitry Medvedev has launched a large-scale reform of the country's police, including cutting the number of policemen and increasing salaries in response to criticism of the force.

Nurgaliyev also said officers would face drugs and alcohol tests.
