Ukraine's general staff dismissed comments about Kyiv's troops being encircled in Russia's Kursk region as false and said there was no such threat as units had been pulled back to more "favourable" defensive positions.

Earlier on Friday, US President Donald Trump, without giving details, said that thousands of Ukrainian troops were "completely surrounded" by Russian military. Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday Ukrainian forces were in full isolation in the Kursk region. The general staff did not mention the source of the comments it objected to.
