<p>Various activities like awareness camp for girl children, celebrating granny’s day, mother and daughter fest, street plays, bringing back long term absentees back to school among others have been undertaken by the schools to instill life skill and leadership qualities among the girl children. <br /><br />Speaking to City Herald, Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat Higher Primary School, Mannagudda Head Mistress Joyce Henrita said that members of Meena Club are actively participating in all the club activities as it provides them a rejuvenating atmosphere. The team guided by a lady teacher and led by a ‘Preraki’, the best student among the lot who motivates the group for conducting programmes, are on their toes to make the activities a successful one. <br /><br />“We hold monthly meetings where review of the previous activity and planning of the future programme takes place. We have succeeded in bringing 4 absentee children back to school, while rest of the Meena Club children are constantly motivating the absentees to attend the classes”, Henrita said.<br /><br />Activities<br /><br />During granny’s day celebration, grandmothers of the children in the club are invited for the programme. <br /><br />Here the grandmothers bring traditional medicinal plants along with them and inform the children about the significance of various plants and how they could be used in the day to day life. <br /><br />In the mother and children fest, mothers of the students in the club gather to teach basic life skills to the group. In the awareness camp for girl children, an expert counsellor interacts with children clearing their queries. <br /><br />‘Preraki’ of DK ZP HP School Gandhinagar, Rakshitha Gowda claims that Meena Club has helped her in many ways. <br /><br />“In our school resource persons have informed us about variety of aspects including how to face exams, study techniques, personal cleanliness etc. Most of the time our parents are not bothered about our personal cleanliness, but Meena Club has enabled us to learn many things in order to develop our personality”, says Rakshitha Gowda. <br /><br />Remarkable achievement<br /><br />DK ZP Higher Primary School of Kodikal has made a remarkable achievement making the ultimate use of Meena Club. The Meena Club members along with the help extended from the school Head Master have succeeded in bringing back 14 children from Paddodi Kendra of Bangra Kulur region. <br /><br />“We have a teacher under Srava Shikshana Abhiyana Scheme who is conducting separate classes for these 14 students”, informed school Head Master Jayappa. <br /><br />Meena Club has proved of much help to the rural students as the students can involve themselves into activities, which do not just help is taking a break from usual day to day work, but will certainly help them in their life in the long run.</p>
