<div>Stand-up comedian Steve Coogan has opened up about his drug addiction and he says he felt like he was going to die after taking cocaine.<br /><br />In his new book, "Easily Distracted" Coogan, 49, revealed that his stint with drugs began in 1992, reported Mirror.<br /><br />"I could feel pins and needles in my left arm, and my heart was thundering. I thought I was having a heart attack.<br /><br />"Patrick put me in a car and drove through red lights to get me to hospital. I cried all the way. I couldn't stop thinking, 'I'm going to die. This is it. My headstone will say: Stephen Coogan, born in Middleton in 1965, died in Edinburgh in 1992, aged 26 years.' What a waste!," he wrote recalling the horrific experience of a panic attack.<br /><br />The "Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa" star said he had series of panic attacks even after he was declared fine in the medical examination.<br /><br />Coogan says he tried rehab to get over his drug habit, but his addiction had begun to take its toll on his life because he constantly needed it.<br /><br />"I don't take drugs or drink any more, but I am in no denial about my past: I will always be a recovering addict," he said. <br /></div>
