The Goods and Services Tax (GST) is just a day old, and luxury carmakers have already announced cut in the prices of several models, applicable under the new tax regime.

Mercedes-Benz has announced price changes across models. For instance, 4-door coupe CLA, which was priced Rs 32 lakh pre-GST, now costs Rs 30.88 lakh. Similarly, the new E-Class, which was earlier priced in the range of Rs 55.7 lakh to Rs 69 lakh, is now priced in the range of Rs 53.7 lakh to Rs 67 lakh.

Likewise, the SUV GLS 350, which was priced Rs 83 lakh, has reduced to Rs 80 lakh, while the super-luxury Maybach S 500 will now be priced Rs 1.80 crore, down from the earlier Rs 1.87 crore (all prices ex-showroom Delhi).

“We are looking forward to this simplified tax structure which will create a single market across India and benefit both the buyer and the seller. There may be initial teething issues but we are confident that there will be promising long-term gains,” Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director and CEO Roland Folger said.

Meanwhile, Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has also proactively announced the new prices under the GST regime for its entire product range in India, effective from July 1, 2017.

The all-new Jaguar XE has post-GST prices starting at Rs 34.64 lakh, XF (starting at Rs 44.89 lakh), F-PACE (starting at Rs 67.37 lakh), and XJ (starting at Rs 97.39 lakh). As part of Land Rover portfolio, the Discovery Sport has post-GST prices starting at Rs 40.04 lakh, Range Rover Evoque (starting at Rs 42.37 lakh), and Range Rover Sport (starting at Rs 89.44 lakh), among others – all are ex-showroom prices.

According to Jaguar Land Rover India President and Managing Director Rohit Suri, “We are happy to announce that we are ready for GST and our customers can purchase JLR cars at the new GST prices with immediate effect from any of our 25 retail outlets across India.”

Audi, another German carmaker, has announced post-GST prices for its cars as well. The Audi A3 is now priced between Rs 31.85 lakh and Rs 48.52 lakh, the A4 is priced between Rs 39.61 lakh and Rs 41.52 lakh, while the two variants of the A6 is priced Rs 51.93,000 (TFSI Matrix) and Rs 52.91 lakh (35 TDI Matrix), respectively. Meanwhile, prices for the ultra-luxury SUV Q7 start from Rs 70.12 lakh – all prices are ex-showroom.
