Oppo earlier in the month launched the company's new premium mid-range F19 Pro Plus 5G along with standard F19 Pro in India.

It comes with just one configuration 8GB RAM with 128GB storage for Rs 25,990. I have been using the F19 Pro Plus for a week and here are my thoughts.

Design, build quality and display
Our review unit is the space silver model. It has a simplistic design and features smooth ivory white-hued shell with a glossy finish and shimmers in the sunlight. There is a massive camera module at the top left corner with LED flash and the bottom to the right side, you will find vertically aligned oppo brand engraving.

Oppo F19 Pro Plus features a sturdy frame around the display. On the right side, it has a volume rocker and a power button.

On the left side, the phones feature a tray-slot, which can accommodate two SIMs ( type: nano) and also a microSD card to expand storage.

At the base, you will find a type-C USB flanked by a 3.5mm audio jack and a mic on the left and a single-grille speaker to the right. And, on top, there is a lone microphone hole.

On the front, it flaunts a 6.43-inch full HD+ (2400 ×1080p) AMOLED screen with up to 800 nits brightness with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Additionally, the company pre-fits an additional layer of a screen guard and offers a transparent shell-cover (in the retail box), which shield the phone from daily wear and tear.

It particularly comes in handy in resistant deep scratches often caused by pens or keys in the pocket.

The display is really bright and the colours come off natural and warmer. I did not face the straining of my eyes while viewing contents on the email even under sunlight. Also, with the front camera occupying a tiny patch in the top-left corner, there was no obstruction. I had a good time watching high-resolution videos and playing games.

Oppo F19 Pro also features an in-screen fingerprint sensor, which by the way works beautifully. It responds fast to the finger impression and also there is a low False Rejection Rate (FRR).

Performance
Oppo F19 Pro Plus houses 7nm class MediaTek Dimensity 800U (MT6873V) octa-core CPU backed by Android 11-based ColorOS 11.1 OS, 8GB LPDDR4x RAM and 128GB (UFS 2.1) storage (expandable up to 256GB).

It works smoothly without any fuss and also I did not find any pressing issues when playing games. On Geekbench 5.0, the phone managed to score 484 and 1514 points on single-core and multi-core tests, respectively.

Oppo's new phone comes with a 4,310mAh cell and it consistently gave more than a day's battery life. During my active hours (6:00 am to 10:30 pm), I mostly browse the web and news feed on social media platforms. Also, while commuting in between the house and office watch movie trailers and bookmarked on Twitter and Facebook. Also, to test the performance, I play a video game for around 20 minutes. At the time of retiring to the bed, the F19 Pro Plus usually had a bit over 30-35 per cent juice left in the battery.

And with 50W fast charging tech, the phone gets charged fully from zero to 100 in around one hour.

Camera
Oppo F19 Pro Plus houses quad-camera module--48MP (with OV48B sensor, f/1.7) + 8MP 119-degree ultra-wide angle (f/2.2) + 2MP 4cm macro sensor + 2MP depth sensor (f/2.4).

It takes really good HDR (High Dynamic Range) pictures in the natural sunlight, but I am more impressed with the low-light snaps. The sample below taken during the twilight came off with near-natural colours. Compared to other phones, the ghosting around the contour of the sun setting behind the hill range is less.

Also, the ultra-wide-angle shots manage to include cover the vast expanse of the landscape.

Even the macro shot came off lovely. We can see the beautiful intricacies of the veins of the leaf.

As far as the night mode is concerned, Oppo F19 Pro Plus captures decent pictures.

It can take pretty good high-resolution stable videos up to 4K and they are on par with other phones in its class.

On the front, they feature 16MP (f/2.4) snapper for selfies and video calling. It takes fantastic selfies. Like other Oppo phones, camera software is very aggressive in terms of smoothening the face. It gets the face rid of minor acne scars and pimples.

Oppo's camera offers numerous filters and editing tools to enhance the photography experience. Additionally, it offers Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based beautification feature that adjusts skin smoothness, complexion, can face to the thinner jawline, make eyes bigger, smaller nose, and a virtual touchup. This may sound superficial, and I don't like complaining, as most people want to make themselves look good on social media. Oppo is just facilitating with such features.

Final thoughts
For long, Oppo has maintained a strong foothold in the upper mid-range category (Rs 20,000 and Rs 35,000). But, the competition is getting tougher with Samsung, Xiaomi, Vivo and Realme bringing more options to the customers.

With the latest F19 Pro Plus, Oppo has brought in the formidable phone to take on the rivals. It houses MediaTek's latest Dimensity 800 series chipset and comes with good photography hardware. I have to say the design language of the device is just gorgeous and one of the best in its class.

Also, it comes with 5G cellular support making it a future-ready phone.

Over-all, Oppo F19 Pro Plus is well packaged for a phone under Rs 25,000 price segment.
