Chief minister H D Kumaraswamy on Friday inaugurated electric car and two-wheeler charging stations at Vidhana Soudha.

Speaking to media on the sidelines of the inauguration, he said that the government was moving rapidly towards promoting electric vehicles to control the rising air pollution in the City.

He used the platform directing all government agencies that of all the vehicles hired, at least 50% of them should be electric vehicles. This he said to spread the message that the government was taking the lead in promoting and using electric vehicles.

He added that the government was also discussing how much subsidy can be given for installing charging stations and even a concession on road tax. He said that in the coming days the government will role out many schemes and subsidies for those using electric vehicles.

Addressing the issue of the farmers, Kumarasamy said that there is no need to stage protests in Belagavi and other places. “If the farmers have a problem, they can approach me directly. The government is pro- farmers and I will take all required measures to protect their interest. I am getting minute to minute update of the problems, issues and accords and protest details of the farmers. I am also aware of how much is being spent to instigate the farmers and how much have the farmers earned and how much they have lost. The farmers need not worry of anything. The farmers should understand that those instigating them are the ones who are against the farmers and the government. I have called the farmers for a meeting on Monday and a consensus will be drawn,” he said.

Pertaining to Goa’s stand on banning trade with fishermen who are not registered with the Food and Drugs Administration and its impact on fishermen from Karnataka, Kumaraswamy said he was discussing the issue with Fisheries Minister and was also going to talk to Goa government on the issue.
