Moderate showers uproot trees, damage vehicles

During a sudden downpour on Sunday, a tree was uprooted, leaving a car damaged at Kanteerava Nagar.

Moderate rain with squally winds lashed the city on Sunday afternoon, ripping tree branches, damaging vehicles and paralysing normal life.

A tree was uprooted at Margosa Road near Malleswaram 8th Cross, damaging two cars, four bikes and an autorickshaw, but no injuries have been reported.

Uprooting of trees was also reported at Indiranagar's CMH Road, Kanteerava Nagar and Nandini Layout where cars were damaged, while a tree fall near Prasanna theatre at Magadi Road damaged an autorickshaw.

The BBMP control room said there was no waterlogging in the city, though the rain triggered traffic jams on MG Road, Vasanth Nagar, Malleswaram, Indiranagar, Hebbal, Vijayanagar, Rajajinagar, Yeswanthpur, Hebbal, Yelahanka, Jayanagar, Koramangala, HSR Layout and other parts of the city.

The control room said BBMP workers cleared the fallen trees as soon as they received complaints.

The Indian Meteorological Department said the city received 16.30 mm rain from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm on Sunday.
