Rs 50 lakh for pending infra works in 5 villages

The Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR) Department has released an additional Rs 50 lakh for pending developmental works in five villages of Bengaluru East taluk.

The villages of Avalahalli, Mandur, Bidarahalli, Kodathi and Halanayakanahalli would get Rs 10 lakh each to complete the infrastructural work that began last year under the RDPR’s Suvarna Grama plan. The funds were requested by MLC Rizwan Arshad.

They can utilise the funds for road, drainage and beautification works besides reviving waterbodies and other works frozen due to the paucity of funds.

Rs 10 lakh last year

“Every village got Rs 10 lakh last year for the developmental works under the plan. Some amount of work was pending due to a lack of funds. Hence, a request was sent to the RDPR department from my office seeking funds,” Arshad said.

He also added that panchayat officials of each village would decide on the works that need the funds.

Local residents were thrilled as the funds would go towards restoring several motorable roads. “This will hugely ease the choked roads in Kasavanahalli and Haralur near Bellandur since the money could be used to complete the newly built roads left half-done,” Shyaam Sundar, a resident of Haralur, said.
