Students also do their bit for Kodagu

City residents are joining forces with students, Non-Governmental Organisations and Residents Welfare Associations to gather materials for victims of rain-battered Kodagu district.

More than 300 residents have given relief material to the Kodava Samaja Bangalore, where 300 volunteers are collecting them.

From Friday onwards, 10 batches of relief material, including biscuits, milk powder, mineral water bottles, blankets, steel plates, diapers, mosquito coils, first aid kits, medicines, towels and sanitary napkins had been dispatched to the rain-ravaged areas.

Speaking to DH, Kodava Samaja secretary Chennapanda K Subbaiah said: “We have received sufficient relief material so far and now we are also collecting donations through our flood relief fund”.

i-Change Indiranagar, a residential welfare association, is also collecting relief material from the residents of Indiranagar to support the people in distress at Kodagu.

Political parties like the BJP and the Congress have also formed a team and sent relief material to Kodagu.

According to a release from the BJP, they have despatched a truckload of materials.

Palike makes appeal to citizens

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has requested the city residents to donate relief material to flood-hit Kodagu district. The civic body has set up collection centers at the BBMP head office, ward offices and sub-divisional offices across eight BBMP zones in the city.

On Saturday, Mayor R Sampath Raj said: “People can donate non-perishable food items, blankets, clothes, torches, sanitary napkins and other usable items. We will send them to Kodagu.”

The mayor has also announced Rs 2.18 crore towards flood relief in Kodagu and Rs 1 crore for Kerala. BBMP’s doctors, town planning officials and others will be sent to Kodagu to assist the people.
