Explained | Why CID arrested Hyderabad Cricket Association president Jagan Mohan Rao, 4 others

The Telangana Cricket Association (TCA) general secretary, DG Reddy, filed a complaint against HCA president Jagan Mohan Rao.

The Hyderabad Cricket Association has been in the news for the last few weeks, with the orders issued by the Telangana High Court. In a recent controversy, the sports body made headlines in a forgery and fund misuse case, which led to the arrest of top officials.

On Wednesday, HCA president Jagan Mohan Rao and four others (namely: Treasurer C Srinivas Rao, CEO Sunil Kante, General Secretary Rajender Yadav and his wife G Kavita) were taken into custody by the Telangana CID for questioning in connection with the allegations levelled against him and others by the Sunrisers Hyderabad during the 2025 IPL season, police told news agency PTI.

It was later reported that the officers were arrested over an IPL ticket controversy after allegedly threatening Pat Cummins-led SRH over complimentary tickets.

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had previously set up an inquiry into the matter after Sunrisers Hyderabad sought the intervention of cricket governing bodies to halt the recurring “blackmailing tactics” by the HCA for complimentary tickets. 

However, the body denied said charges.

Sources told the Times of India that investigators also acted upon an inquiry report based on the allegations against HCA office bearers regarding forgery and fund misuse.

The Telangana Cricket Association (TCA) general secretary, D G Reddy, filed a complaint against HCA president on June 9, alleging that he forged an official document during cricket body's election and engaged in misappropriation of funds worth around Rs 2.3 crore.

Based on Reddy's complaint, the HCA officials were charged under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita concerning cheating, misappropriation of property, forgery, and criminal breach of trust.
