CWCs boycott proceedings

Members seek advocates service
Last Updated 25 June 2009, 19:38 IST

The Committees have also asked the Department of Women and Child Welfare to appoint an advocate to represent the Committees in the High Court.

The CWC committees are particularly upset when a person in relation to a case of illegal adoption was asked to appear in front of the committee for clarification.  The person, however approached the Court and the Court told the CWC to ‘know their limitations.’
A Department official admitted that the CWC members had boycotted all the Committee’s proceedings and had asked them to represent CWC in the court. “We are trying to find out the best way to deal with the issue. We are talking to them about not boycotting the proceedings, but they are not likely to agree,” the official said.

An advocate is also likely to be appointed to represent the CWC in court.
