Government complains against Guv

The recent row over appointment of vice-chancellor to the Karnatak University prompted the Government complain against the Governor who is the chancellor of universities.
Speaking to reporters, Acharya said the Governor appointed H B Walikar as vice-chancellor of the Karnatak University without concurrence of the Government. The Government had recommended S B Hinchageri for the post.

As per law the Governor should appoint the vice-chancellor with the concurrence of the Government. The Government had registered its protest against the Governor’s decision. Hinchageri has moved the court against the Governor’s move.

The minister said the Government had given preference to all communities while appointing vice-chancellors. Earlier people belong to minority community and backward classes had occupied the position in the Karnatak university.

Acharya said he had sought legal opinion from the Law Department to take action against former vice-chancellors J Shashidhar Prasad (Mysore University) and Syeda Akhtar (Bijapur Women University) for irregularities in recruitment during their tenure. The Governor had raised objections to taking action against Shashidhar Prasad. Bangalore, dhns: Higher Education Minister V S Acharya, on Wednesday, said that the Government had complained to the Union Home Minister against Governor H R Bhardwaj alleging non-cooperation with the government.
