Curtains down on 3-day literary event at Moodbidri

The award winners include Dr G S Amoor (literature), Dr M M Kalburgi (research), Shimoga Subbanna (sugama sangeetha), M Leelavathi (film), Dr Brahmakumara Basavaraja Rajarushi (spiritual), M Veerappa Moily (social sercvice), Santhosh Kumar Gulwadi (journalism), Balipa Narayana Bhagavatha (yakshagana), Prof B Jayaprakash (organisation) and Dr K P Puthuraya (literature).

The award carried a shawl, memento, citation, fruits and a cash of Rs 10,000. After presenting the awards, each of the winners were offered traditional arathi.

Speaking after receiving the award, Moily said that expansion, inclusion and excellence should be the motto of education system. Inclusive growth is the need of the hour in the country. He said there is a need for innovation in the education sector.

Dr M M Kalburgi said Kannada literature and culture should be propagated at the national and international level. Goddess Saraswathi and Lakshmi stay together at Alva’s campus, he said.

Dharmadhikari D Veerendra Heggade said “if atleast one per cent of the students develop interest in literature and literary activities, then sammelan like Alva’s Nudisiri will be meaningful.”

By organising Nudisiri, the organisers were able to develop friendship with hundreds of literary enthusiasts, which will remain forever in life. “It is not right on the part of the people to say that the government should be entrusted with the work on promoting Kannada language and preserving it. The Government has many responsibilities other than promoting Kannada,” he added.

Vaidehi speaks

In her presidential address, Kendra Sahithya Akademy winner Vaidehi said that Kannada can be saved with commitment and will power.

Vaidehi said “Alva’s Nudisiri-2010 was very well organised and was systematic. Even the government could not organise such a well organised sammelan”.

She added that it provided a platform to discuss several serious issues. It also provided me an opportunity to interact with my people.”

“I am fully satisfied with the Nudisiri. The feeling of happiness can not be explained. It was an unique feeling.”

Cultural programmes

As a part of Alva’s Nudisiri-2010, there was ‘Yaksha nrithya roopaka’ by Mantapa Prabhakar Upadhya and Sridhar Hegde Chapparamane.

Besides, ‘Dasavani’ by Anantha Kulakarni, dance ballet, Bharathnatyam-Oddissi jugalbandhi, ‘Bedara nrithya,’ ‘Bhavagana manjari’ and a children’s play ‘Daana dangura’ by Rangamane Samskrithika Kala Kendra children on the occasion.

Leelavathi breaks down

When the organisers asked Leelavathi to speak just before the vote of thanks, she felt humiliated and said: “I may be 75 years old. But age has not affected my dignity. There are lot of people who wanted to hear from me.”
