Rly ticket booking hit across the City

Last Updated 13 July 2009, 19:43 IST

According to railway sources, “The systems collapsed for an hour in the afternoon and again in the evening for an equal duration due to a technical fault.” City railway station, Cantonment, Yeshwantpur, Krishnarajapuram, Whitefields, Bangalore East, Utility Building on M G Road, K R Market, Indira Nagar and Vijaynagar figure among the 19 locations.
Serpentine queues were found at the stations even as the closing hour (8 pm) approached. Some people were forced to leave the queue without booking their tickets at the end of the day.

The reservation centre at the Bangalore East Railway station, which generally wears a deserted look, was teeming with people. “People who came at the last minute to book general tickets had to either wait for the problem to be solved and take the next train or risk ticketless travel,” said an official. Disruptions in booking of tickets have taken place a few times earlier but it extended over a long period of time on Monday, he added.

Divisional Railway Manager, Akhil Agrawal, conceded that passengers were put to some discomfort due to the problem. “However, this being the lean season for travel, the impact was not felt that much.” The error was rectified later and booking of tickets has resumed normalcy now, he added.
