The unicode language should be made available for general public, while the Kannada language should be made mandatory for the school students, he said. <br /><br />He was speaking at a seminar on “Use of Kannada language in Print and Electronic Media, organised jointly by the KDA and the Mysore District Journalists’ Association at S P Bhat hall. <br /><br />Regretting that the news anchors in TV channels and the Radio jockeys in the FM channels used the Kannada language in a not so dignified manner, he said there was need for a class on Kannada for the anchors and RJs. <br /><br />On flipside, he said though there have been few instances of print media also adopting newer methods to woo the readers, the Kannada newspapers have contributed immensely to the growth of the language, the KDA Chairman remarked. <br /><br />He said the Kannada language and local culture faced several challenges because of the influence of English medium of instruction, threat to the language in border districts besides others. <br /><br />The Authority has been demanding the government to press upon the private sector, particularly the corporate sector to give reservations to the locals. <br /><br />The KDA was holding programmes in the corporate companies and the big IT institutions on Kannada language, he revealed. <br /><br />Speaking on the occasion, member of the Authority Prof Krishne Gowda said there have been several instances in the history when there was a fear language getting spoiled. <br /><br />It happened when Vachanas in colloquial language replaced the highly disciplined way of poems or writings in early 11 th century. A similar fear gripped the literary world when on new genre of writing.<br /><br />Journalist Ishwara Daithota, MDJA president K Shivakumar, general secretary B S Prabhurajan and others were present. <br /></p>
