Gadkari tells BSY to take the lead in biofuel use

Last Updated 20 February 2011, 18:12 IST

"In Chhattisgarh,  Chief Minister Raman Singh is currently using biofuel for his vehicle which has no carbon emissions,  is completely free from hazardous gases and is eco-friendly. I hope that  impetus will be given in Karnataka which has been a leader in encouraging biofuel in the country," he said.

Following the BJP session conducted at the Palace Grounds, Gadkari and Yeddyurappa visited Peenya Industrial Area where the first unit to produce biofuel for commercial use has been set up. Gadkari, who has been taking the lead in Maharashtra for producing biofuel in the villages, said the use of biofuel, a dream of Vajpayee, was essential to stem unemployment and to decrease the country’s dependency on crude imports.

The BJP president also stated that the BJP now had a wing of its own to monitor the biofuel projects across the country and such encouragement by state governments would help a lot.

The Peenya unit has a capacity to produce nearly 10,000 litres of biofuel each day. The company has nearly 110 acres of plantations growing pongamia and jatropha in Dharmapuri area to provide raw material for the production of the biofuel.
