Woman, children end lives in suicide pact

Debt-ridden husband had killed himself 10 months ago

The dead are Gauramma (32), daughter Indushree (12) and son Chaitanya (10). Indushree and Chaitanya were studying in Class VI and IV respectively at Surabhi School at Hosapalya in Kengeri.

Gauramma of Bheemanakuppe village in Bidadi, was married to Ramesh, an autorickshaw driver from Bapujinagar in the City 15 years ago. The couple were staying at Ullala Upanagar.

Ramesh committed suicide 10 months ago reportedly due to financial problems after which Gauramma and her children moved to her parents house. They were given an independent room in her parents house. They went to the room around 9.30 pm on Saturday night, locked it from inside and hanged with three separate ropes from a ceiling a fan. The tragedy came to light when Gauramma’s brother Hanumanthraj went upstairs to wake up Gauramma as she did not come down even after 8 am.

The police found a death note in which Gauramma had stated: “I am joining my husband Ramesh with my children. Out of the Rs 60,000 in my account, use Rs 20,000 to meet expenses of cremation. Kindly complete the final rites at the electric crematorium where the final rites of my husband took place. I have kept some money in the almirah. Please use the amount to pay the school fee of my children which is due for the past four months. I have kept some money in the wallet. Please give it to my grandmother. No one is responsible for our deaths.”

The text which runs into a paragraph was written by Indushree. Considering the nature of the incident, it seems all of them hanged themselves at once. There is a remote possibility of Gauramma hanging her children and later committing suicide, police said.
