<p>The cooperation among the members to support each other in their difficulties and educating fellow members on health consciousness inspire me to pen a book, said Mohini Giri, former chairperson of National Women’s Commission. <br /><br />She was speaking at the International Women’s Day celebration organised by the Ashodaya Samithi at the Humanities Auditorium at Manasagangothri University campus on Saturday. <br /><br />“The Ashoday Samithi running a hotel to support the medical needs of HIV positive members is commendable. It is showing a light in the lives of women who were in a gloom and despair. The Samithi has rekindled hope among sex workers to fight for their rights,” Mohini remarked. <br /><br />She called upon the samithi members to fight unitedly to get more facilities and secure their rights. The women members should benefit out of the Indira Awaaz, Swayam Bhima schemes and others. <br /><br />It was important that the members registered for the electoral ID card. The voter ID card help them to avail various beneficiary schemes of state and central Governments, she said. <br /><br />In his address, Mayor Sandesh Swamy regretted that the women were constantly exploited in the society for decades. <br /><br />Despite the country being a male dominated society, women have achieved many strides in the field of art, literature, religion and other areas, the Mayor opined and added that government’s should work aggressively to bring the sex workers and sexual minorities to mainstream. V Vyasa Rao, president of Karnataka Film Academy said that women should get 50 per cent reservation in all the areas and sectors. It is only then that the Women’s Day get a its credit.<br /><br /> On the occasion, members read out the achievements of women like Rani Kittur Chennamma, Belavadi Mallamma, Rani Abbakka, Obavva, Kalpana Chawla, Triveni, Vydehi, Gangubai Hanagal and others. <br /><br />Samithi secretary Gowramma, director Akram Pasha and others were present on the occasion.</p>
