In one of the most extensive survey of moviegoers ever undertaken, saw the actors voted ahead of Gable and Leigh from the 1939 classic, set in the backdrop of American civil war.

Almost a quarter of all those who voted, rated the romance that plays out during the final hours on the ill fated cruise liner Titanic as the best Hollywood has ever made.

In the 1997 film, which won 11 Oscars, Winslet plays Rose, a high society woman while DiCaprio played Jack, a poor artist and they fall in love during the voyage against all odds, Daily Mail reported.

But there is no happy ending as Jack dies along with over 1,500 other passengers when the ship sinks on its maiden journey after hitting an iceberg in the North Atlantic.

The romance between Gable and Leigh in the 'Gone with the Wind' was rated the second most romantic onscreen pairing.

Their fiery kiss against a crimson sky as they escape from a burning Atlanta has become one of cinema's most iconic images.

Richard Gere and Julia Roberts in 'Pretty Woman' were placed third in the survey.
Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman were placed fourth most romantic onscreen couple of Hollywood for their powerful performances in the 1942 classic 'Casablanca' while Spencer Tracey and Katherine Hepburn were voted fifth.

The duo starred in nine films together, including Without Love and Adam's Rib, which critics say was arguably their best film.

More than 500,000 people were asked for their favourite film choices and characters for ABC TV and People magazine.
