Provide water, toilet in schools by December: HC

According to the statistics provided by the government, of the 40,000 primary schools in the State, 5,447 don’t have access to drinking water and 5,587 don’t have toilets. As many as 12,100 secondary schools have no access to drinking water while 2,500 do not have toilets.

City-based advocate Amarnath had filed a PIL, seeking the Court’s directions to the State government to construct adequate toilets and provide drinking water facilities.

The Division Bench comprising Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice A S Bopanna directed the State to complete the construction of toilets in all the schools and provide potable water by December 31, 2011.

 The Bench also directed the State to complete all works and submit an affidavit with details of expenses after the work was completed. The matter has been adjourned to January 2, 2012.

Case alerts

The Karnataka High Court has developed a facility to know the listing of cases, filed in the High Court and its circuit benches, in the cause list through SMS for the benefit of litigants, lawyers and others.

Those interested in availing the service have to register themselves, along with their mobile numbers, on the website of the High Court: www.karnatakajudiciary.kar.nic.in.

The service is open for the public to register the court cases which they want to track and receive an alert whenever the main case is posted in the court and appears in the cause list for that day. The service is free of cost.

A user has to register by providing details and after receiving the user name and password can insert a new case, add a new case or delete a case. The SMS generated will be in the following format: HCK Bench: Clist for Date: Court Hall No: List No: Serial No: Case No:
