Shotgun, Sonakshi to get Dada Saheb Phalke Academy award

While Shotgun Sinha will be bestowed with Dada Saheb Phalke Academy legendary artiste award, Sonakshi will get Dada Saheb Academy best debut award at a glittering at Mumbai on May 3," filmmaker Pahlaj Nihlani, who is the trustee of the academy, told PTI.

"Shatrughan Sinha has been chosen for the award in recognition of his long innings in the film world and an equally successful run in politics," Nihlani said.

There are eight trustees of the Dada Saheb Phalke academy including Pahalaj Nihalani and film star Mithun Chakraborty.

The birth anniversary of the doyen of Indian film industry Dadasaheb Phalke falls on 30th April and the award is an attempt to recognise old and new talent in cinema.

Veteran actor–film-maker Dev Anand was the recipient of Phalke Ratna award in 2010. Actor Pran and singer Lata Mangeshkar were also felicitated by the academy last year.
Born on July 15, 1946 in Patna Sinha, Sinha is a graduate from the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune.

Starting his career in 1969 with 'Sajan', the actor has worked in than 200 hindi movies in a career spanning four decades.

Sinha is known for his movie roles like 'Kalicharan', 'Dostana', 'Kala Pathar', 'Shaan' and 'Naseeb'.

He has also acted in the Punjabi films including 'Putt Jattan De' and 'Sat Sri Akal'. Sinha has also tried his hands in singing for films like 'Kashmakash', 'Dost', and 'Do Naari'.
He recently portrayed former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N T Rama Rao in Ram Gopal Varma's 'Rakta Charitra'.

He is presently Lok Sabha member from his native Patna Saheb constituency in Bihar.
Sinha's 23-year old daughter Sonkshi Sinha caught imagination of the movie viewers with 'Dabaang' opposite Salman Khan. The young star played a village belle in the movie.
