JOIN USThe Dinesh Reddy-run Red Rooster, who managed to chalk up two championship wins through Vikram Mathias and Naren Kumar in three years of taking part in the only National rallying championship in India, called it quits on Monday after being unable to garner enough sponsors to run a full season which amounts to nearly Rs four crores.
“It’s quite sad that they had to call it off but it is an expensive sport,” said Chandhok. “What’s worse is that Red Rooster Racing is a well known team and if those guys could not get enough sponsorers, you can imagine how hard it is for the others.”
With RRR’s pull out, Team MRF is the only team running the N+ category and when asked if the category will scrapped, Chandhok said: “It would be very unfair for us to ask them to stop what they have been doing this late and jump to the N category. I will speak to Tony Rodricks (owner of Team MRF) and see if they can make the shift. But any change, if any, will happen only next year.
“We are two months away from the start of the championship and we can’t make any changes now. Decision regarding the scrapping of the N+ category can be made only after the meeting of the Rally Commission.
“We have been working very hard to bring down the cost factor to run races and I’m sure we (FMSCI) will work harder in that area. ,” Chandhok said.
