The year-old baby elephant was found wandering in a mulberry farm at Maralawadi in the Kanakapura-Harohalli Forest range Wednesday morning.

Tipped by village residents, Forest officers arrived on the spot, and with the help of the villagers managed to capture the calf and brought it to BBP.

The calf, which was stressed, has been provided vet treatment and was now recovering, BBP doctor Chettiappa said.

He said he was hopeful that the calf, given the elephants’capacity to bond with their own, would become friends with the domesticated elehants at the park.

After observation, it would be decided whether to keep the calf at the park or to let it out into the wild, Dr R Raju said.
