Lokesh (30), his wife Rojamma (23) from Challakere in Chitradurga district and Hanumappa (55), a resident of Vaderahalli, are the dead. They worked in a brick kiln near Harohalli.

According to police, 14 persons boarded the goods vehicle around 11.15 am at Kanakapura Cross. They were on their way to Harohalli from Bangalore. The vehicle was carrying more people than its capacity, it is said. The driver lost control over the vehicle as it approached the lake. It plunged into the lake around 2.15 pm, when the driver tried to take a turn, police said.

The stretch near the lake is not an accident zone. There are also no hairpin bends or curves. Police suspect that the accident took place due to overloading of the vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle is absconding. The bodies were shifted to Rajarajeshwari Hospital on Mysore Road for autopsy, the police said.
