The protest is being held under the banner of State Labourers Protection Forum near the Deputy Commissioner’s office in the city.

Around 450 gangmen were working on contract in CESC and their service was terminated after the expiry of contract period. These workers had staged several protests against their termination in the past, but it did not yield any results.

The protesters said it is inevitable for them to go on indefinite stir as the government failed to meet their demands.

The decision to stage a protest was taken at a meeting held under the leadership of Babanna on Monday. Accordingly, a torchlight procession would be taken on May 28 at 10 am from DC’s office and proceed via N R Circle, Hemavathy statue, SP office and return to DC’s office and also  perform ‘urulu seve’, he said. If the government fails to take any step even after this procession, they would wear black dress and beat ‘jodi tamate’ for the whole day.

The protesters arrived at the DC’s office on Tuesday and began silent protest in front of the portraits of Goddess Chamundeshwari and B R Ambedkar.
