2G scam: illustrator rebuked for sketching court scene

Last Updated 25 May 2011, 14:06 IST

The artist, who was drawing the images of high-profile accused, including DMK MP Kanimozhi, by standing near the bench was first asked by the court staff to stop doing that.

The caricaturist then took the rear seat but was again caught sketching the images of those present and set-up of the courtroom by the court staff who reported it to the Special CBI Judge O P Saini.

The judge took exception to his action and warned him that strong action could be taken against him for breaking the decorum of the courtroom.

The court took the copy of the identity card of the artist and destroyed the sketches made by him in the courtroom.

As the drama was unfolding, some of the relatives of the accused, including that of Swan Telecom promoter Shahid Usman Balwa, also protested and demanded that papersheets containing the sketches be confiscated as there was a likelihood of their being misused.

The sketchmaker was warned by the judge of being slapped with a fine and also reminded that a scribe has been imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 for filing a frivolous petition in connection with the 2G case.

"You have just seen that a fine of Rs 10,000 has been imposed. Do you want such a fine be imposed upon you,?" the judge said.

Before being let off, the visibly shaken artist apologized to the judge and said "I will not do the same again".
