Many freshers do not know what to expect on the first few days of college. Though leaving school and entering college is exciting, it is also a stage when students become nervous as they are entering a world of which they know very little!

The first day of college is quite an apprehensive day for many. Even though the whole idea of college gives students the feeling of new-found freedom, there is also this constant worry of making new friends and creating a good impression of oneself. “When it comes to making new friends, you get quite tensed. There is also the fear that you may get into the wrong company,” says Tanya Jacobs who is just entering college.

Most freshers in college go through the same feeling of anxiety. Hence, it is important for them to be confident about themselves.

“I was very nervous. I did not know anyone but I managed to keep a confident face on the outside even though I was nervous. I think that helped me survive,” says Niveditha Dinakar from Jyoti Nivas College.

There is also the fear about ragging or how to approach the seniors. “Initially it was very intimidating to talk to the seniors. I was shocked when I was told that I am supposed to address them as ‘sir’ and ‘madam’.

Apart from that, there is nothing to be scared of, it’s just the first few days that make you feel all blue,” says Anand Bura of Indian Institute of Hotel Management.
It is often frustrating for freshers to find the way around the campus.

Therefore, on the first day of college, many students find it hard to figure out how to get to their respective classrooms. “I was given the room number but I was so lost that I did not know how to get there. I felt better when I found a group of girls searching for the same room as I was. At that point, I realised that I was not alone,” says Prithi Iyer from Jyoti Nivas College.
