HC uphold's lower court's acquittal order of Bangarappa

Last Updated 27 June 2011, 11:53 IST

CBI had filed a charge sheet against Bangarappa and others on the ground that they had hatched a criminal conspiracy by placing an order for 100 Apple Macintosh computers from Classik computers for a high price and paying an advance of Rs 1.52 crore, leading to a loss to the government exchequer.

A CBI probe into the computer purchase was ordered by M Veerappa Moily who had succeeded Bangarappa as chief minister.

The designated court had in 2003 acquitted Bangarappa and others after it found that the prosecution had failed to prove their charges.

Former Chief Secretary, J. Alexander, the proprietors of Classik Computers, V Goplakrishna and V Gokul Krishna, and then Chairman of the Mysore Development Authority (MUDA), P Govindaraj were among those named as accused in the case.
