Injured soldier dies

Gerald Joseph D’Souza (26), the son of Jefry D’Souza of Athur near here, had met with an accident a month ago and was being treated at the Army Hospital in Bangalore.

He was serving in the Indian Army at Udhampur in Jammu, who had been to his native place in the last week of May on a vacation. He was about to leave to Jammu on July 2, but met with an accident when he was on the way to Puttur with his father to confirm his ticket. A seriously injured Gerald succumbed to injuries on August 2.

Puttur Tahsildar Kaverappa, DK Soldiers’ Welfare and Rehabilitation Department’s Shinoji Rao, Uppinangady In-charge Deputy Tahsildar Sridhar, Kadaba SI Nandakumar paid last honour to the soldier.

Ex-servicemen Association former president Ramesh Babu spoke. Uppinangady Church in-charge priest Praksh Anil Casteline conducted the last rites. Uppinangady SI Nagesh Kadri, village accountant Sunil, Panchayat Secretary Gerald and other officials were present. Hundreds of public had gathered to pay last respects to the deceased soldier.
