'CM to open indoor stadium in Udupi on August 20'

Speaking to media persons, MLA Raghupathy Bhat informed that Chief Minister will also lay the foundation stone to the swimming pool to be built in the premises. The state-of-the-art indoor stadium is on par with the international standards when it comes to infrastructural amenities. The stadium comprises of four wooden floored courts.


Badminton tourney

A state-level badminton tournament “Unex Sunrise” will be organised to commemorate the inaugural ceremony of stadium on the occasion. The matches are played in three categories, under 13, under 15 and under 17, both in singles and doubles, he added.

International fame Indian badminton players Vimal Kumar, Arvind Bhat and Anup Sridhar will take part in the inaugural ceremony. The stadium will incorporate separate facilities for the games like gymnasium, table tennis, carrom and snooker. The four wooden courts will be named after the donors and the stadium is open to the players’ everyday from 5 am in the morning, he said.

Maintenance

A committee is set up under the leadership of DCto look after the maintenance and membership issues. The lifetime membership will cost Rs 2 lakh for the family that can be renewed every 10 years by paying the same amount.

Whereas the lifetime membership for the individual costs Rs 1 lakh stretched for a period of 10 years that needs renewal after the period. A person who wishes for common membership requires paying Rs 30,000 for a period of 10 years. Besides, he has to pay Rs 500 every month additional fee. Arrangements have been made for free coaching to school children.
