Concerns over Hazare's health as fast enters eighth day

Last Updated 23 August 2011, 05:36 IST

Hazare has lost 5.6 kg since he began his fast on August 16. He is weaker but there was no problem right now, his close associate Manish Sisodia told reporters here.

"There is no need for hospitalisation. He has lost 600 grams in the past 24 hours. His weight is 66.4 kg, a drop from 72 kg. His blood pressure is 124/82. His pulse rate is 84 per minute. Anna told me that he is feeling fine," Sisodia said this morning.

Traces of ketone were also found in his blood.

In the wee hours of the day, Sisodia said doctors have advised Hazare not to venture out in the Sun as it could have a negative impact on his health. However in the morning, he said there was no such problem and Hazare would sit on the dais during the day.

Activist Kiran Bedi said, "Each hour of delay will have serious costs. The government needs to realise this. Time is of absolute essence".

Yesterday, doctors said Hazare was fine though there were contradicting views especially by Hazare's two associates on the condition of his kidneys.

While Bedi said his kidney was "infected", another aide Arvind Kejriwal denied it.

Though doctors have been maintaining that Hazare's health is fine, his close associates are worried over the health of the 73-year-old anti-corruption crusader.

As he was feeling weak, Hazare decided not to address people gathered at the Ramlila Maidan yesterday.
