SMK corrects faux pas on Pak prisoner

In a suo motu statement in the Rajya Sabha, the minister said, “There was an inadvertent reference to Pakistan while I actually meant Rajasthan in respect of location of ...Dr Chisti.”
Seeking to underline the “correct position”, Krishna said when the Pakistan foreign minister came here recently, “we did talk about these questions”.

It was a matter which needed to be considered by the Rajasthan government on humanitarian grounds. “He (Chisti) is confined to a wheel chair and is 80-plus. I am sure, the Government of Rajasthan will take a lenient view,” Krishna said.

On August 11, replying to a question Krishna got confused about the wheelchair-bound Chisti, lodged in the Ajmer jail.

The question about his release should be considered by the Government of Pakistan on humanitarian grounds, he had said. His seemingly strange answer had forced an intervention by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who clarified the matter.
