Retired journalist commits suicide in Kolkata

Guharoy, 74, jumped before a train at the Netaji Bhawan station of the Kolkata Metro Wednesday and was taken to the M.N. Bangur hospital where he was declared dead, family sources said. He was a widower with no children.

Guharoy, who also covered the Bangladesh liberation war of 1971, was posted as the Dhaka correspondent of the Press Trust of India between 1980-84, and later served as the agency's Colombo correspondent.

He also covered parliament for some time during his posting in New Delhi, before retiring as the agency's senior news editor at its Kolkata bureau.
