A 32-year-old woman was found hanging from a ceiling fan hook in a hotel room in Jayanagar 9th Block. The Tilak Nagar police have identified the victim as Shilpa, wife of Sharath and a resident of JP Nagar 6th Phase.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the couple were married for four years and had a son.

Shilpa had left home on September 15 following a quarrel with her husband, and checked into Sai Lodge. The room boys got suspicious when she did not come out of the room for more than 24 hours. With police help, they opened the door and found the woman hanging from the ceiling.

Jewellery stolen
Gold jewellery worth about Rs 2.5 lakh was allegedly stolen from the glove compartment of a scooter parked at Govindaraj Nagar on Tuesday.

Prasanna Kumar, a Vijayanagar resident, told the police he had collected the jewellery from a Canara Bank locker and kept it in his scooter. On his way home, he met a friend and stopped his two-wheeler near Adyar Ananda Bhavan at Govindaraj Nagar. Engrossed in a conversation, Kumar and his friend strolled away from the scooter for some time. On returning, he found the packet containing jewellery missing from the vehicle. Police suspect it to be the handiwork of a few criminals who follow bank customers and rob them of their valuables.

In another case, miscreants sprayed a white powder on a trader – leaving him wildly scratching his body — and robbed him of silver rings worth Rs 2 lakh.

Ashok Sahu, in his complaint to the police, stated that one of his scooter tyres went flat and he stopped his vehicle at a vulcanising shop to fix it. While the mechanic worked on it, two men walked up to him and sprayed some white powder on him.

Sahu said he started feeling itchy and rushed to fetch water. When he returned, he found silver rings worth Rs 2 lakh kept in the glove compartment of the scooter missing.
