The three buildings are –– the Red Cross Blood Bank at the District Hospital, a building for the Regional Transport Office near Chitravathi and a building for the district prisons near Anakanuru village.

Blood bank

The lack of a blood bank at the District Hospital had forced doctors to procure blood from Bangalore during emergencies and accidents. When blood was unavailable, relatives were forced to shift patients to Bangalore.

But now, with the construction of new blood bank, doctors and patients are hopeful that there will not be any scarcity of blood during emergencies.

Though there had been plans to set up a blood bank, the non-availability of land and a building had delayed the plan.

But after the Red Cross stepped in and the government sanctioned funds, the construction of building was made possible. The new blood bank will be fully operational in two months.

The building was constructed at the cost of Rs 30 lakh.

Regional Transport Office

The new RTO has been constructed on 2.2 acres of land in Chitravathi and at a cost of Rs 3.14 crore.

The foundation stone for the building was laid in October 2009. The new building will house the offices of regional transport officer, assistant regional transport officer, motor vehicle inspectors and a office for the treasury.

District prisons

The district prisons has been constructed on six acres of land and at a cost of Rs 3.50 crore at Anakanuru village.

The building has been divided into administrative block, cells, security block and the kitchen.

The administrative block comprises the superintendent’s office, jailor’s office, records room, jail doctor’s office, generator room and housekeeping.
