Addressing the gathering after inaugurating a convention of women entrepreneurs organised by the Sanchi Trust at Aloysius College here on Tuesday, Shakunthala said that the SWDC will impart training on entrepreneurship to women through the SSB. She said that women entrepreneurs in the district lack proper market for the products manufactured by them. Hence, the SSB will also serve as a centre for marketing products manufactured by women entrepreneurs, she said and added that five centres will be opened in the district.

The district administration has already identified five cents of land near KSRTC bus stand for the construction of a two-storied building for SSB, she said. The building will have space for marketing and training, she said adding that the proposal has already been sent and the work will be taken up soon.

Similarly, Shakunthala said, an Entrepreneurship Guidance Centre will be opened by the SWDC at Chilimbi in the City to guide women in entrepreneurship and marketing. She said that there is ample opportunities in dairy farming products. Hence, women should also explore opportunities in the dairy farming field, she emphasised.

Further, talking about government schemes including ‘Udyogini’ and ‘Asare,’ Shakunthala said that women should make use of the schemes to develop themselves.
Sanchi Trust Director Merlyn Martis said that the Trust is working to rehabilitate beedi workers, who lost jobs in undivided Dakshina Kannada, under directions from the International Labour Organisation (ILO).

Trust will train up women and help them to obtain self-employment loans to set up industries, she said adding that about 7 lakh beedi workers had lost their jobs in undivided Dakshina Kannada.

Lead District Bank Manager Udaya Kumar Holla presided while Mangalore University College Professor Dr Udaya Kumar Irvathur was the guest. Trust President Padmini and Secretary Jyothilakshmi were present.
