'Retire from politics if Bopaiah is innocent'

BJP district Spokesperson Manu Muthappa has challenged the Congress leaders to retire from politics if Speaker K G Bopaiah is proved innocent in the case related to misappropriation of funds under Reshmehadlu kere development project.

Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday, he said Bopaiah’s name has been dragged in the case unnecessarily. If the Lokaykuta report gives clean chit to Bopaiah, then Congress leaders should retire from politics. “The culprits should be punished for misappropriating the funds,” he said.

In 2006, a sum of Rs 1.19 crore was released for the development of the kere. As Zilla Panchayat engineering division failed to take up the work, Bopaiah recommended to hand over the work to Nirmithi Kendra, so that the released fund would not be sent back to the government. What is wrong in the recommendation? he asked.

“Bopaiah has been trying to get funds from the State government to the district. The Congress could not digest the development activities. So they are trying to level baseless allegations,” he alleged.

When the Congress leaders were ministers in the state government, no development work took place in the district. Why the Congress failed to solve the row over Jamma Bane over the last 60 years? he asked and added that the Jamma bane issue will find a permanent solution in the winter session of the Assembly.

He asked whether Minister S M Krishna and senior leader Dharam Singh who have been facing allegations related to denotification of land, will tender resignation?

No harm

Taluk Panchayat member Pankaja said that Zilla Panchayat member Saritha Poonaccha has not done any harm to the tribals residing in Reshmehadlu village.

In a separate press meet, she said the ruling party is leveling false allegations against ZP member Saritha Poonaccha. Thithimathi Gram Panchayat members E H Shivakumar, Y C Raju and others said that the tank was not useful to the residents of the region. Why Bopaiah had shown interest in the rejuvenation of this tank? The similar amount could have been used for the development of tribes, they opined.
