UG courses: Semester system in Jamia soon

Last Updated 13 December 2011, 19:45 IST

“Since the last one year professors are revising the course to adopt semester system in all the UG courses.By February 2012 the semester system will be implemented,” said the varsity's media co-ordinator Simi Malhotra.

The University had initailly planned to implement the semester system in the 2011-2012 session but due to the extensive revision of the courses it was delayed for a year. While in the PG courses semester system was already introduced last year.

“The decision to delay the implementation of the semester system for UG courses was to ensure the smooth revision of every course. There was no problem in introducing this system at the PG level and it will be the same at the UG level also,” added Malhotra.

Mixed views

The teachers have mixed views regarding the implementation. Though few show concern over the lenghty course structure and incompletion of syllabus, others believe that it will become more systematic.

“The UG course syllabus of a lot of streams is bulky thus trying to finish the syllabus in a short span of time i.e per semester may be a problem initially,” said  an associate professor in the Faculty of Social sciences (does not want to be named)
However, many felt that the revision of courses have structured the syllabus and thus the implementing of the system will prove to be beneficial.
