The Khadi Utsav in the Vokkaligara Bhavan in the city got excellent response, with people coming from various taluks to purchase khadi dresses, material and other products.

Khadi silk sarees and warm clothes have proven the most popular purchase.

Participants

As many as 32 organisations under the Khadi Gramodyoga are participating in the Utsav. In addition, there are eight other organisations in the Utsav.

“The Utsav has provided opportunity to rural organisations to visit urban areas and sell their products to customers directly, with no fear of middlemen or agents,” said State Khadi and Rural Employment Board district unit officer Mani, speaking to Deccan Herald.

Thriving business

He added that in merely a couple of hours of the fest opening on Friday, the sellers had sold stuff worth about Rs 2.42 lakh. “The khadi industry will be promoted greatly if the level of sale continues. It will help the loss-making industry to gain profits.”

Munishama Gowda of Babitha Khadi Gramodyoga Sangha said most customers purchased silk sarees. The discount rates are also encouraging the customers to buy clothes ‘for the entire family’, he added.
