Mega dairy at a cost of Rs 80 crore approved

Federation of Mysore-Chamarajanagar District Co-operative Milk Producers Union has decided to pay an additional Rs 3 per litre for milk producers.

Addressing a media conference here on Wednesday, Omprakash said the decision to hike the prices was taken by the government as it would help the farmers.

The price hike is needed as the federation is implementing several schemes for the welfare of customers.

Milk collected per day has increased to a maximum of 5.13 lakh kilograms during the present year. Out of this 2.65 lakh is sold as milk and 45,000 kg is sold as curd.

In 2010-11, the federation had bagged the state-level Shakti Samvardhana Award and was placed second in a national-level competition for saving fuel worth Rs 41 lakh. The federation had bagged state-level award for saving fuel in 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010.

Under the purification of milk programme, 49 bulk-cooler centres are functioning in rural areas. The 306 associations in the zone collect around 1.35 lakh of milk. About 15 associations have procured milking machines. In the present year, 125 dairy farmers have been given subsidy to procure 100 hand-operated milking machines and 25 automatic machines.

The fodder manufacturing unit scheme has released funds of Rs 35 lakh. Utilising these funds, 45 fodder manufacturing units have been developed.

ATM centres

The federation has also opened 24-hour milk selling centres for the benefit of customers. Centres have been opened at Mymul centre and K R Circle. Walk-in cold storage units have been opened in Hunsur, K R Nagar, Chamarajanagar, Kollegal and Nanjangud.
